Introduction

Plant of Thailand Research Unit was established in 2533 B.E. (1990 A.D.). This research unit creates and strengthens communication and cooperation among plant taxonomists as well as recording plant-diversity information in the "Plants of Thailand Database." Current research comprises the Flora of Thailand Project with special emphasis on the families Asclepiadaceae and Convolvulaceae, indigenous vegetables, pollen flora including population biology and the conservation of rare flora. Plant biosystematics is also studied concentrating on numerical plant taxonomy and molecular plant systematics. Recognized work has been presented in both national and international media. The research subject has been operated mainly support the study of student, in Botany and Biological Science programs both undergraduate and graduate levels.

Objectives

To challenge and organize new sort of knowledge; to dissiminate knowledge to scientific communities via international research journals and publication; and to exchange and provide knowledge, references and experience with other organizations and to community by writing and training. Voucher specimens, transparency slides and publications are deposited at the Professor Kasin Suvatabhandhu Herbarium.

Research Activities

The main research is to study plant diversity in Thailand:

-         area-based study of plant diversity,

-         revision of problematic taxa,

-         palynological study,

-         plant morphometric analysis,

-         molecular systematics,

-         taxonomic study of economic and ornamental plants,

-         ethnobotany.
