CD-ROM Searching

CD-ROM (In-house)

Science library provides some of electronic and digitized information sources so that library users may access up to date information conveniently with easy to use formats. The CD-ROM collection at the time includes 2 databases, on life sciences and physical sciences. The descriptions are as follows:

Life Science Collection (1986-2002)

"Life Sciences" is a CD-ROM database, providing information on more than 1,350 of the world's leading journals in a broad range of disciplines, including animal & plant sciences, biochemistry & biophysics, cell & developmental, biology, chemistry, clinical medicine, microbiology, molecular biology & genetics, experimental biology & medicine, physiology.

Physical Sciences (Current Contents) (1996-1997)

Physical Sciences current contents are on a CD-ROM database, reproducing the table of contents page & covers over 900 of the leading international scientific journals of various disciplines, including applied physics, condensed matter & material sciences, chemistry, organic chemistry, earth science, inorganic & nuclear chemistry, mathematics, polymer science, physical chemistry / chemical physics, physics and space science.

How to access ?

Users are welcome to use these databases at the Faculty of Science library.

Service hours: 9.00 -11.00 am and 13.00 - 15.00 am

CD-ROM (On line Network)

COMPENDEX PLUS provides worldwide coverage of virtually every engineering discipline: civil, energy, environmental, geological and biological engineering, electronics and control engineering, chemical, mining, metals, and fuel engineering, mechanical, automotive, nuclear and aerospace engineering, and computers, robotics and industrial robots. Over 2,600 sources are covered, including journals, technical reports, conference papers and proceedings. Each record contains a bibliographic reference and abstract.

DAO (Dissertation Abstracts Online) DAO offers libraries electronic access to the entire Dissertation Abstracts database which includes bibliographic and abstracts of dissertation disciplines. The database represents the work of authors from over 1,000 North American graduate schools and European Universities (1988 - present).

Derwent Biotechnology Abstracts is a database of cover topics such as biology, technology, biotechnology and patent information which includes bibliographic data and abstracts

ERIC: The most widely used database on the literature of education. A bibliographic database covering journals and technical literature in the field of education, ERIC is complied by the ERIC Processing and Reference Facility. The ERIC database consists of Resources in Education (RIE) and Current Index to Journals in Education (CIJE) covering the document literature from over 775 periodicals (Jan 1992 - June 1996).

NTIS: The leading resource tracking goverment research and development. The NTIS database contains bibliographic citations and abstracts to unrestricted technical reports from both U.S. and non-U.S. government sponsored research. NTIS covers topics such as engineering, biotechnology and the environment, and the physical, biological and social sciences, with over 70,000 titles (Jan 1980-June 1996).

MEDLINE database is produced by the U.S. National Library of Medicine. MEDLINE covers virtually every area in the broad field of biomedicine, including toxicology, nutrition, pharmacology, medicine, psychiatry, medical engineering and pathology which includes the complete contents of three print indexes: Index Medicus, the Index to Dental Literature and the International Nursing Index. MEDLINE provides abstracts for articles from over 3,600 U.S. and international journals (1990 - 1995).

Science Citation Index database contains citations to the literature of science, technology, medicine and related disciplines from 3,300 science journal title words, author addresses, cited works, cited authors and journal titles.

The library provides network PCs for free access
