The Department of Geolgy was the first
of its kind to be established in Thailand, offering BSc Degree for science students. The
Department has since extended its service to postgraduate study at MSc and PhD levels.The Depatment is equipped with
laboratories and equipment for mineralogy, geochemistry, paleontology, petrography,
photogeoogy and GIS. Other facilities for self-learning are available such as a geology
library, museum, map and aerial photo room.
A number of geological
rsearch projects are actively undertaken by the staff members and students. The research
directions of the Department include Resource Geology, Environmental Geosciences,
Mineralogy & Petrology, Paleontology & Stratigraphy, and Geochemistry.
Technical services and
assistance are also extended to the public, such as identification and analyses of
minerals, rock and water samples, identification of fossils, geological field mapping,
etc.
Career opportunities for
geology graduates are widely available in many government agencies, state enterprises and
the private sectors, namely, the Department of Mineral Resources, the Electricity
Generating Authority of Thailand, the Irrigation Department, and oil and mining companies.
